Thunderhead in needle felted wool: Friday, July 31, 2026, 12:30 - 4:30 pm $140 registration + $40 material fee, Limit 12 participants. Workshop Location: River Bottom Studio, 74e South Main St, Marshall, NC 28753 About the workshop: The emotional weight of an impending storm is captured in this dramatic thunderhead against a darkened sky. The single session project will guide you step-by-step to build the massive cloudscape over rolling fields lined with trees. With a dozen different fibers in your roving kit, you will be guided through special techniques to capture the mood and drama of this natural landscape. You can complete the project in class or continue at home. Each student receives a kit with a range of dyed wool roving in the project palette, felting needles, acrylic felt pinned to your own foam block worksurface plus handouts outlining steps and inspiration images. All materials are provided with the materials fee, due in class. These materials are yours to take home to pursue more studio projects. Beginners are welcome in this workshop. You will be introduced to each fiber and technique, and every piece is unique to the maker, regardless of guidance or experience.
